Humberview Farms Ltd is proud to present a $1,400 donation to the Peel District School Board (PDSB) on behalf of Pioneer Seeds. This money will support the Caledon Public Schools’ Vegetable Garden Project, an initiative that brings fresh food and hands-on learning to students across the community.
Pioneer Seeds Sales Representatives Heather and Allison saw the wonderful work being done in these school gardens and wanted to help. They applied for a grant through the Corteva Agriscience Community Betterment program and were successful in securing the funds. Corteva Agriscience (Corteva), the parent company of Pioneer Seeds, focuses on helping communities in need by funding projects related to food security, agriculture education, and community life. Food security means making sure all people have access t enough safe and healthy food.
The Caledon Public Schools’ Vegetable Garden Project is a special program that includes all 16 public schools in Caledon. Led by PDSB School Trustee Stan Cameron and supported by the Albion Hills Community Farm, the project teaches kids how food grows.
Students plant seeds before summer break, and volunteers look after the gardens during the summer. In the fall, students harvest the vegetables to feed local families and donate t local food banks like The Exchange.
This project impacts about 15,000 people. It teaches children about healthy living, teamwork, and how to care for others by sharing what they grow. The $1,400 donation will help ensure the gardens continue to grow and thrive from spring through fall.
