Hello My Good friend and neighbour,
I once received a beautiful video of a dear friend ringing the bell to mark the completion of her final cancer treatment. Her radiant smile of victory, proudly wearing her Wonder Woman red T-shirt, did more than lift my spirit – it stirred something deep within me. It reignited my muse, reminding me of the extraordinary strength of the human spirit and the preciousness of life.
This respected coworker and cherished friend embodies the very essence of SISU – the Finnish concept of courage, resilience, determination, and unwavering perseverance in the face of adversity.
How fitting that she rang that beautiful bell on D-Day, June 6. D-Day commemorates one of history’s most courageous battles, when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy and began the liberation of Western Europe. It stands as a symbol of bravery, sacrifice, and the determination to overcome overwhelming odds.
In many ways, her journey – along with that of many other family members and friends who have also faced health battles – reflects the same enduring spirit. She, and they, confronted their challenges with remarkable courage, met each obstacle head-on, and emerged victorious. Like the heroes of D-Day, they demonstrate that strength is not the absence of fear, but the resolve to keep moving forward in spite of it.
