From point A to point B, and back again, people and goods are constantly being moved around. But what about the environmental impact of all of this movement? Well, that depends on the mode of transportation.

To date, a majority of the energy that powers the different forms of transportation we choose is generated by burning fossil fuels, creating greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change. In Canada, transportation accounts for one quarter of our carbon emissions.

According to the David Suzuki Foundation, in 2017 (the year with the most recent data), transportation in Canada accounted for a staggering 174 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, following closely behind oil and gas development which contributed 195 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Canada is VAST, and made up of many different types of communities, people commute via bike, car, bus, train or plane on a daily basis, each with their own impact on the environment.

Choosing more sustainable modes of transportation can save us money, improve health, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions!
