Written by ecoCaledon

Do you have any “GREEN” wishes for 2024? We do!!!!

With 2024 in full swing – the air is charged with excitement and anticipation at ecoCaledon. 2024 holds the promise of redefining our relationship with the planet and contributing to a healthier, more sustainable Caledon.

Committed to CLIMATE ACTION and MORE!

In conjunction with our partners – ecoCaledon aims to EDUCATE Caledon residents on environmental issues, EMPOWER our community to take individual and collective action, ADVOCATE for better policy and bold climate initiatives, and PARTNER with others working on climate solutions.

Our Vision is to make it easy and fun for people to change behaviours in order to lead lives that are better for themselves and the planet.

Environmental Education

At ecoCaledon, we strive to inform Caledon residents about the pressing environmental issues that impact our community. When we understand the impacts of these environmental issues and the challenges we face, we are empowered to make informed decisions and take positive actions that contribute to the sustainability and well-being of the planet. Keep an eye on our socials for workshops on a number of environmental issues. You may wish to join us on March 2nd for Seedy Saturday.

Community Engagement

In order to empower our community to participate in environmental stewardship, ecoCaledon designs and facilitates campaigns that combine learning about a specific environmental issue with an opportunity to take action – which can be more fun and rewarding when done as a community. Stay tuned for upcoming community clean up events, Repair Cafés, Challenges and more!!!

Advocacy

Our environmental advocacy encompasses a wide range of activities aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of environmental issues, influencing policies, and inspiring positive actions to address and mitigate the impacts of human activities on the planet. We work towards supporting conservation projects, promoting sustainable land use practices and opposing destructive development.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

We are at a most critical point in Caledon’s future with decisions being made now that will lay the foundation for immense change over the next 30 years. The current forecast is for a tripling of Caledon’s population to 300,000 people over the next three decades – an unprecedented milestone in our largely rural municipality that will significantly impact the Town’s energy and GHG footprint. According to the Clean Air Partnership, by implementing climate-friendly policies, municipalities such as Caledon can significantly reduce GHG emissions and promote sustainable development within our jurisdiction.

Sustainable Caledon (a subcommittee of ecoCaledon) is currently working on building awareness around the Town’s proposed Green Development Standards. The Town’s Green Development Standards present not only an opportunity to improve performance on sustainability, but also to provide many additional benefits on matters of importance to the community – they ensure that new construction is environmentally, socially and economically responsible – focusing on the community as a whole.

Partnerships

Building partnerships between various stakeholders, including: individuals, organizations, businesses, all levels of government, and communities with the common goal of addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices are crucial. These partnerships allow us to pool resources, expertise, and efforts in order to achieve more significant and lasting impacts on conservation and sustainability.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Stay tuned for upcoming collaborations with the EV Society (Caledon Chapter), the Palgrave United Community Kitchen, the Caledon Home & Lifestyle Show, Age Friendly Caledon and more!!!

The time for change is now, and together, we are planting the seeds of a more sustainable future! Here’s to 2024!
