Stories of Caledon

New Caledon podcast coming: Will you share your story?

Written by Patti Foley

A big part of vibrant healthy aging is embracing a new mindset – one that recognizes that you can learn new skills and hobbies, and that you do need smarter food choices, a certain amount of physical activity, and socialization. In fact, connecting with others has probably never been more vital.

We, as older adults, can learn so much from each other at this age as we truly do have it all – what I like to refer to as wrinkles, wit, and wisdom.

Each of us has a story to tell – our story – and, within it, beautiful nuggets that might help someone along, solve a problem, provide a belly laugh, or even make someone’s day.

Now you can easily share those experiences with others via a new podcast series by Caledon Meals on Wheels (CMOW) called Aging Out Loud Caledon. The series has been made possible by an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant and by partnering with Caledon Public Library. CPL is extending use of a Makerspace in the Margaret Dunn Valleywood branch for a recording studio.

Unfamiliar with podcasts? A podcast is essentially like a radio show that can be listened to online on people’s own time schedule. The Aging Out Loud Caledon series is audio only, no visuals.

As a participant, you get the easy part. Just relax in that comfortable space at the library and, with some gentle nudges from CMOW Executive Director Kim Rodrigues, tell your story.

Maybe your story is about resilience. Maybe it’s one of daring deeds. Maybe it’s about how and why you came to Caledon. Maybe it’s about how you shifted your perspective and reprioritized your time to help make the world a better place.

Kim and her crew will do the taping, the editing, and all the tough bits, and then your story will become one in the series that starts to air this fall.

If you are an older adult who is ready to share your story, wisdom, or wit, with others then reach out to Kim at Kim.rodrigues@cmow.org or 905-857-7651 extension 147.
