Legacy Golf Classic launches to support Caledon charities
The Allan and Anne Thompson Community Fund has pledged its commitment to the Caledon Agricultural Society’s (CAS) fundraising efforts with the launch of the Legacy Golf Classic, naming them as the Major Grant Recipient of the inaugural event.
“Our capital campaign is a very ambitious undertaking for our volunteer Board and we couldn’t be happier to be named as the major grant recipient,” says Ed Taccone, Caledon Agricultural Society president.
Agricultural fairs have played an important role in communities across Canada throughout our nation’s history—and the Caledon Agricultural Society has brought the Caledon and surrounding community together through cherished events like the Caledon Fair and Canada Day celebrations for over 160 years.
They are currently engaged in their most ambitious project ever and planning for the future with a $3-million capital campaign to expand facilities on the existing fairgrounds to meet the ever-growing demands of our Caledon community.
With this growth the need for modern community spaces is growing and the Caledon Agricultural Society are answering this call with plans for a state-of-the-art 15,000-square-foot community center that will provide versatile spaces for community gatherings, celebrations and events; feature modern amenities, including a commercial kitchen and accessible facilities; honour our agricultural heritage while meeting contemporary needs; and creating a year-round hub for community connection.
“We are excited with the possibilities this new build will bring not only for our Caledon Fair but for the community as well,” says Taccone.
But with a large capital campaign underway in the community the couple believed they could do more to augment their Fund’s ongoing support for Caledon charities and the campaign.
“This is the fair board’s most ambitious fundraising effort in history and we wanted to do what we could to help support their efforts,” says Allan Thompson.
A golf tournament at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley was the Thompson’s first pick.
“I’ve known the Humeniuk family for over twenty-years and was part of many of the discussions with Roman, the late Jerry and now Chris as the family and other golf industry partners brought their incredible vision for a world-class golfing destination to life.”
Anne says when the event tagline – Honouring Tradition and Driving Impact – was first suggested it resonated with them right away.
“For the Caledon Agricultural Society it speaks to the longevity and historical community contributions while acknowledging their exciting vision for the property moving forward. It speaks to the work Chris and the TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley team are doing to advance his family’s decades-long vision for the property. And it aligns with our own values and the impact we hope our Fund can make in our community,” says Anne.
