Bethell Hospice Foundation recently acknowledged Anne and Allan Thompson as recipients of the Elizabeth Birnie Leadership Award. This award is presented annually to an individual or business that has demonstrated both leadership and financial support to the Foundation to assist in promoting and raising funds.
As community ambassadors who have supported Bethell Hospice since inception, the Foundation said “Anne and Allan were the unanimous choice for this award.”
“Bethell Hospice is certainly an organization that is incredibly important to not only Anne and I, but our family. As soon as the fundraising initiatives began all those years ago I was there for the Hikes personally, and certainly doing what I could to help politically. I just never realized that our family would soon be one of the hundreds of thousands of families who would need to call on it in their time of need for my own Mother” said former mayor Thompson.
Allan’s wife Anne, the co-recipient, went on to say “We are incredibly humbled by the recognition, because this isn’t why we do what we do. For Allan, Bethell has a special place because during his time in office he watched it grow from the seed of an idea by Lorna Bethell herself into reality. Her daughter Elizabeth has been there every step of the way to continue her mom’s legacy, and we are truly honoured to receive the award named after her.”
