Hello My Good friend and neighbour,

What if summer isn’t a season… but a permission slip?

Perhaps the greatest gift of summer isn’t the sunshine at all. Perhaps it’s the invitation to experience Datsuzoku (脱俗) – a Japanese philosophy of breaking free from the ordinary.

It’s all about letting go of habits and expectations. Escaping rigid routines. Surprising yourself. Seeing familiar places and familiar people as though you’re meeting them for the very first time.

It’s about embracing spontaneity, curiosity, creativity – and the things that truly matter.

Calling your mother, your daughter, or your best friend instead of sending another text.

Finally visiting the ocean you’ve been talking about for years.

Looking your spouse in the eyes and telling them what they’ve meant to you.

It’s about turning “someday” into today.

Summer reminds us that life was never meant to be lived entirely inside schedules and routines. Sometimes the most extraordinary moments begin with a simple decision to wander, to wonder, and to welcome the unexpected.

May your summer be filled with a little more Datsuzoku… a lot more living… and just enough pregret to create stories worth telling. It’s a GoNK thing to do…
