It’s YOUR Caledon, it should be YOUR choice! If you think Caledon’s planning should be returned to Caledon then read the backgrounder below. At the end you will find a link to an online petition asking for just that! Seeking 2500 signatures before the Sept 29th Peel Regional Council meeting these dedicated Caledon residents need your help TODAY. Just a few minutes of your time and a little effort (ie. sign and share) can make a huge impact……

Note: If you prefer to sign, or help circulate, a paper Petition please contact PattiFoleyCaledon@gmail.com and I will put you in touch with Bolton resident Ken Yates

For several years, vital stakeholders and planning experts were involved in an extensive planning process in Caledon. The purpose of this process was to determine the best possible location for residential expansion of Bolton.

Planning experts developed six options for expansion which were presented to the public through a series of Open Houses and Public Information Sessions. Public input was requested and received at every step of the process. After each step, it became more and more clear that most parties involved believed that one option provided the optimum benefit for Caledon socially, environmentally and economically.

More detailed information on the Bolton Residential Expansion Study (BRES) can be found at www.caledon.ca/en/townhall/bolton-residential-expansion-study.asp
As the required next stage of this process, the Town of Caledon submitted this option as a proposed Official Plan Amendment to Peel Regional Council for inclusion in the Region’s own Official Plan. However, rather than confirming the Town of Caledon’s planning process the majority of Regional Councillors disagreed and as a result it was decided that a second study would be undertaken by Regional planning experts.
This second study essentially repeated the same process as Caledon had undertaken, with its own series of Open Houses and Public Information Sessions. At the conclusion of this process Regional planning experts confirmed the Town of Caledon’s original proposal, with some minor variations.
However, when it came time to put forward the Region of Peel’s recommended option for public review, Peel Council chose to dismiss the results of both planning exercises. Instead, they have supported the option that had consistently proved to be the least favourable option throughout the entire process.
Peel Council has not yet taken a vote ratifying their recommended option. However it appears likely that they will do so. If this should happen, the only recourse will be to appeal this decision to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB).
This is not a petition to attack or put down those who support Peel Council’s recent decision. Let’s respect those who see things differently from us while ensuring our own voice is heard. You are invited to sign this petition if:
– You agree with the outcome of the initial Bolton Residential Expansion Study (BRES);
– You would like Peel Regional Council and the OMB to honour Caledon’s local planning process;
– You want Peel Regional Council and the OMB to know that there are many who do not agree with Peel Council’s decision.
