Warning for Caledon Residents

Written by Patti Foley

Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are advising residents to be vigilant when dealing with door-to-door sales persons. On February 18th, a male in his early 20’s attended many residences in the Village of Bolton requesting to check the hot water tank. The male did not have proper identification and wore a tag that read “Consumer Relations”.

Know your rights; you do not have to let sales persons in your home.   Sales persons must leave your home if you ask them to. If they persist, and refuse to leave they are in contravention to the Trespass to Property Act and you should contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or for emergency situations dial 9-1-1.  If you are interested in what a door-to-door salesperson has to offer, take the time to find out about their business and their offer before giving them money.
