Trickster: A Poem by Carol Good

Coyote
Written by Carol Good

The following poem was written by Palgrave’s Carol Good, author of Alive & 65

Trickster

He saunters
bold as brass
tongue lolling charming
dog smile

We stop
stare, disbelieve,
believe
begin to retreat

Turn to check
his unchecked trot
embodied tawny beauty
majestic, magnetic

When more like us appear
he slows, turns, vanishes
now we pass
en masse

Safe together
unscathed
though
permanently marked
