Palgrave resident Bernie Rochon is a member of a local group that call themselves the 3R’s Club. The Club visits and reviews restaurants in Caledon plus those within a one hour’s drive radius of Hwy 50 and Hwy 9 (excluding Toronto). After a three-year hiatus due to Covid the Club is getting back into their groove. So here we are again visiting another restaurant close to Palgrave. This time we went to The GoodHawk which you will find nestled in beautiful Hockley Valley.
Five from our group attended this time and all of us were truly taken by the family-like atmosphere of the place. The restaurant is blessed with beautiful backyard settings. We enjoyed very friendly and personal service from the owner, Natasha, and Dean our server. Google Maps reviews The Goodhawk with a 5-star rating which is very good.
We would certainly also give Goodhawk a good review but would hold back on a few items that could reduce the 5-star rating. The outdoor seating (where we were on benches) could be improved although the tables were long and large which made it comfortable for place settings.
The wine selection by the glass is limited and unknown as all of the wines are not available at the LCBO stores. Also, the size of the content is not stated on the menu and our guess is that it is about 5 oz which makes these wines quite expensive. Buying a bottle definitely makes it a better deal.
The plating was good, and the food selection was very interesting. It was decidedly different from any of the restaurants we have reviewed in the last four years. The menu is changed every week. Many of the items will require some explanations from your server as to their content and combinations. All of the selections are served on different plates with diverse designs that date back half a century or so. This makes the plating very appealing and unique.
So be ready for a truly different experience in food and presentation. It makes the whole thing worthwhile!
