Summer Student Employment


SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES 2013

All applications and resumes should be received by the Parks and Recreation Department no later than Friday February 15, 2013. Please indicate the position that you are applying for. Some positions will begin mid April to mid May and finish at the end of August. The remainder of the positions will begin the end of June and finish the end of August. Hours range from 35 to 40 hours per week.

In order to qualify for summer employment with the Town of Caledon, students must be attending school full-time immediately prior to employment and be returning to school full-time once their employment with the Town ends.

PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Camp Coordinator

Camp coordinators oversee the Town of Caledon summer camp program. Coordinators are responsible for planning summer camps, supervising camp staff, communicating with parents/guardians, responding to incidents and emergency situations. Coordinators are required to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with exceptional customer service skills. Outstanding organization, planning and time management skills are compulsory in this position. Candidates must be available for the entire summer, flexible with work hours, dates and locations. Coordinators are required to hold current Red Cross or equivalent Emergency First Aid certification, provide a police background check, experience in a leadership role working with children and youth, previous camp experience is an asset.

Camp Counselor

Town of Caledon camp counselors are responsible for the day to day supervision of the summer camp program at various locations. This includes leading activities such as outdoor games, crafts, swimming and weekly themed events. Camp leaders must be comfortable working with day camp participants, staff, and parents/guardians. Proven leadership skills and experience working in a team environment is an asset. Staff must be available for the entire summer, flexible with work hours, dates and locations. Camp Counselors are required to hold current Red Cross or equivalent Emergency First Aid certification, provide a police background check, experience in a leadership role working with children and youth, previous camp experience is an asset.

Integration Camp Counselor

Integration camp counselors provide one on one support to individuals with special needs. Support staff is responsible for adapting and modifying traditional activities to meet the needs of the camper while providing a fully integrated camp experience. Integration counselors must be prepared to swim and/or be in a swimming environment. Camp leaders must be comfortable working with day camp participants, staff, and parents/guardians. Integration support staff is required to have experience working with individuals with special needs, camp experience is a benefit. Proven leadership skills and experience working in a team environment is an asset. Staff must be available for the entire summer, flexible with work hours, dates and locations. Integration camp counselors are required to hold current Red Cross or equivalent Emergency First Aid certification, provide a police background check, experience in a leadership role working with children and youth, previous camp experience is an asset.

Parks Maintenance

Duties: Assist with the maintenance of parklands within the Town of Caledon. Duties
will include grass mowing and trimming, flower planting and maintenance.
Qualifications: Valid G or G2 Driver’s License, with a good driving record. Previous experience in landscaping, horticulture, farming or related experience is an asset. Experience with the operation of small tools and equipment is preferred.
