With two extremely impactful issues for Caledon – the CBM quarry and the Site Alteration by-law – expected to come to council this year a sudden change in date for a long-scheduled council meeting has some residents feeling a little anxious.
The scheduled March 24 council meeting has been postponed until March 30. In an email Save Swan Lake advocate Keri Parfitt says the Town is citing an inability to meet quorum as the reason. Quorum requires that a minimum of five council members be present either in person or virtually.
Parfitt expressed some amount of concern about the curious unavailability of so many Councillors for a single meeting.
“Councillors Early, Sheen, Kiernan and deBoer have all indicated to us that they are available to attend, meaning only more Councillor would be necessary to achieve quorum” she said.
“Of course, life happens, and it is surprising but quite possible that there are very valid private and personal reasons that all of the other five members of council – including Mayor Groves, Councillors Russo, Rosa, Napoli and Maskell – are unable to attend this particular meeting either in person or virtually” she added.
Parfitt encouraged residents to remain vigilant and check the March 30 meeting Agenda closely when it becomes available.
“What we are concerned about of course are key decisions, unfortunately made on a 5-4 split so often this term, that leave us asking ‘How does this best serve the residents of Caledon?’ Residents can find the council meeting calendar and agendas on the Town’s website.”
