Seedy Saturday: Come Get Your Seeds On!

Seedling in palm of hand
Submitted to Just Sayin' Caledon

Don’t miss SEEDY SATURDAY coming up on February 25th, 2023 from 10 am to 2 pm at 34 Pine Avenue, Palgrave.

This is a partnership between Palgrave United Community Kitchen, Caledon Public Library and Albion Hills Community Farm. Come out and get your seeds on!

Seedy Saturday Canada began in 1990 at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver, BC when over 500 seed savers and seed exchangers attended the inaugural event. Since then, it has grown to a series of winter events held across Canada. Each event is unique and generally organized to celebrate seeds and environmentally responsible gardening practices. Talks, seed exchanges, seed catalogues, community gathering and just generally providing a winter venue for gardening lovers to gather.

Caledon’s first Seedy Saturday will be just that – small but mighty and filled with local community connections. Seeds will be available from Canadian seed growers, as part of seed exchange, mystery seeds and through the Caledon Public Library’s ’s Seed Library. Try your hand at potting – vegetable seeds and potting up some spider or aloe house plants. Look for kid’s activities throughout. There will be four talks:

10:30 Gardening for Pollinators with Christopher Bialek from TRCA;

11:30 Tea Gardening for Beginners with The Gardening Girl, Julia Dimakos

12:30 Regenerative Growing with Jocelyn Molyneux, Jocelyn’s Soil Booster and Wastenot Farms

1:30 Caledon School Garden Project with Stan Cameron, Trustee, Peel District School Board

Did we mention the Friends of the Caledon Public Library will be having one of their famous book sales, including gardening and cook books? The Palgrave Community Kitchen will be hosting a café with delicious local food. Albion Hills Community Farm will be running the grow station for potting and planting activities. Visit with other vendors and community booths.

We extend our thanks to Glen Echo Nurseries, West Coast Seeds, Davis Farm & Feed and Seeds of Diversity Canada and Caledon Public Library for seed donations.

Looking forward to seeing you at Seedy Saturday!

Another Upcoming Event: mark May 13th on your calendar for Albion Hills Community Farm’s Spring Festival and Plant Sale.
