What Not to Fear About Hydrogen

Following the successful pilot project in its Brampton Distribution Centre, Canadian Tire is proposing to install a hydrogen fuel generation system at its Bolton Distribution Centre.

Hydrogen production is not new. In fact, Canada is one of the world’s largest producers and users of hydrogen. Hydrogen has also been safely produced and used in the U.S. and around the globe for nearly half a century.

Jennifer Innis, Regional Councillor for Caledon Ward 4, where the Canadian Tire facility is located, said:

“When Councillor deBoer and I, first learned that an application may be coming forward to include a hydrogen cell at the Canadian Tire facility in Bolton, we did our homework, we did our research and we did a site visit to learn more about it first-hand.

We know that Canadian Tire’s hydrogen generating pilot project has been toured by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Glen Murray, who acknowledged it as innovative clean technology.

We met openly with Caledon’s Fire Chief and asked many of the same questions our residents are asking. Further, when Canadian Tire offered a tour of the Brampton plant to all members of Council, we took advantage of the opportunity so we could share the facts with Caledon residents.

As your Councillors it is our responsibility to educate ourselves as best possible and share information with you. Upon completion of my research, I wanted to share the following information with you. I also want to share with you that I have no concerns with hydrogen production and use on this site.

This is clean and renewable energy and the waive of the future. I am pleased to see that a corporation like Canadian Tire, is investing in technologies to ensure a better environment for future generations to come. I hope that you find this information helpful.”
