Natural Interlude
Glancing up from the page
through a picture window
Wind gusts on pond water
fanning out like fireworks
Grateful to be indoors
I wonder what happens
To bees, birds and beasts
when weather turns harsh
Now spit spots of raindrops
pock the surface
Deer-trimmed cedars cling to the shore
lashed by wind
Shivering I pick up my pen
and write
