Walking into NobleToyz in Bolton will give you a surge of excitement even if you are only a moderate fan of all things fun. In fact if you are a toy lover the rows of colourful packages, games, characters and signs probably feel like Christmas.
Owner Derrick Noble smiles when I confess that the comic book collection gave me a flash of Wolowitz and Sheldon in the Got It, Got It, Got It, Need It scene on Big Bang Theory.
Derrick is a man in love with toys. A plastic injection machinist by trade he found himself staring at a window of opportunity in the summer of 2016 when the moulding company he had been working for announced they were going under.
“I had been buying and selling toys for over 15 years. I really didn’t have to think about it for very long” he says with a grin. “I knew instinctively that this was what I wanted to do and I decided to just go for it. I had this ready in about 3 weeks. The official opening was September 1st.”
While word of mouth and social media have helped him build his business rapidly he counts satisfied customers among his best marketing plans. “Everything here is guaranteed” he explains. “If it doesn’t work you bring it back and I replace it. When people are happy they come back.”
While Fidget Spinners have been bringing lots of new people through the door lately this energetic entrepreneur says once they’re in they see how much else is available – like Funko Pops, Comic Books, Retro Game Systems, Pokemon Trading Cards, Signs, and more – and they are eager to return.
Derrick oozes passion about being a small business owner and about sharing his knowledge and interest in toys with his customers. And, he believes in giving back to community, something he has demonstrated in spades already by supporting Meaghan’s Room, The Exchange and the local Library.
“I feel proud about my business, about my community, and about creating something from nothing” he says.
If you love toys and collecting you will definitely want to visit NobleToyz. It just may feel like Christmas in June.
You will find the store at 15 Healey Road on the northwest corner of Hwy 50/Queen St and Healey Road in Bolton. Derrick welcomes you to drop in or call 905-252-5644.
