2014 Ice Storm Rebate for Low Income Seniors and Persons with Disabilities
On December 21, 2013, an ice storm hit the Caledon area causing extensive damage to trees and power lines, on both public and private property. The Town of Caledon Council has established a rebate program to assist low income seniors and low income persons with disabilities with costs associated with the removal and clean-up of ice storm tree debris, and/or out of pocket costs for the restoration of electricity on private property related to the exterior of the home, provided that all of the eligibility requirements are met. The Program allows for a rebate of up to $200.00 per household.
Low Income Seniors
To qualify, the property owner or spouse of the property owner must:
Be 65 years of age or older by April 30, 2014; and
Be in receipt of the monthly guaranteed income supplement as provided under the Old Age Security Act (Canada); and
Be continuously assessed as the owner and reside on residential real property within the Town of Caledon for a period of not less than 5 years immediately preceding April 30, 2014; and
Provide eligible receipts related to the Ice Storm clean-up for removal of tree debris and/or out of pocket costs for the restoration of electricity on private property related to the exterior of the home.
Low Income Persons with Disabilities
To qualify, the property owner or spouse of the property owner must:
Be in receipt of benefits under the Ontario Disability Support Program Act (ODSPA), provide copy of benefit statement: and
Be continuously assessed as the owner and reside on residential real property within the Town of Caledon for a period of not less than 5 years immediately preceding April 30, 2014; and
Provide eligible receipts related to the Ice Storm (December 21, 2013) clean-up for removal of tree debris and/or out of pocket costs for the restoration of electricity on private property related to the exterior of the home.
The completed application form along with supporting receipts and documentation must be submitted to the Town by June 30, 2014 to be eligible for the rebate program.
This rebate, where allowed, will be an outright grant made by the Town and will not entail repayment of any kind.
