Bolton Regional Councillor News Flash Something to think about

Home James means Home Safely!

Last December, and the one before, I had the incredible opportunity of volunteering with an organization whose mandate was to get people home safely. During a time when opportunities to imbibe abound folks who were into the Christmas “spirit” were driven home, free of charge, and in their own vehicles.

One of my favourite “fares” was a young couple, less than 20 years old I would say, who we picked up from a party and they proudly told us that they had called because “mom said it was a great idea”. I don’t know which made me happier, getting them home safely, or knowing that moms still have that kind of pull!

Last week I attended the launch of Home James, a program of Caledon’s Community Designated Drivers Association. And once again, thanks to dedicated volunteers, Caledon residents will be able to enjoy the season and arrive home safely. This nonjudgmental, confidential designated driver service will operate throughout December as well as for community and service club events during the year.

So kudos to program operators Diane Tolstoy and Stan Janes, and to the local service clubs – Bolton Rotary, Palgrave Rotary, Bolton Lions, Bolton Kinsmen, True Blue Lodge Masons, Knights of Columbus, and Holy Family Catholic Church – that have joined forces to create the Community Designated Drivers Association. Thank you for keeping your community safe.

You can contact Home James, a non-profit association, at 905-951-9000 commencing in October, regarding the 2012 Christmas season.
