Bolton Regional Councillor Good to Know

Headwaters Health Care Improving Services

An exciting announcement regarding Headwaters Health Care Centre….

Headwaters Health Care Centre is improving health services to better care for residents close to home

ORANGEVILLE, May 23, 2013- The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Honourable Deb Matthews, was at Headwaters Health Care Centre today to announce an exciting investment in Headwaters Health Care Centre.
Thanks to the Ministry’s support, Headwaters Health Care Centre will now be able to move forward with its Priority Ambulatory Care Program project to meet the growing demand to provide care closer to home for its residents.
“We need to redevelop some of our existing space and create some new space for surgery and specialist clinics, like orthopedics and oncology” explained Liz Ruegg, President and CEO. “I am thrilled and excited to be able to start the much needed improvements for our patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers”.
These upgrades to improve health care services and increase access to care closer to home means higher quality, safer, more efficient care, where patients will not have to travel as much for services. Headwaters will be able to create the space to attract and accommodate professionals, like an orthopedic surgeon and a fourth obstetrician/gynecologist, as well as build more regional partnerships to provide services it would not be able to on its own.
“Our community will now be able to come to Headwaters Health Care Centre to see a specialist in person or through cutting-edge technology like telemedicine or see an oncologist more often throughout all stages of their cancer treatment. With this investment, Headwaters will now be able to increase the size of its chemotherapy suite and better design our space to bring care to the patient. These are just a few examples of some of the improvements to services to come to our community” said Dr. Ken Derksen, Chief of Staff at Headwaters at the Minister’s announcement.
Thanks to the Ministry’s investment, support from the Central West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and the generous ongoing support from the community, Headwaters Health Care Centre is now moving forward with the planning and implementation of its Ambulatory Care Program project.
