Garth Young Arena

Official Naming of the “Garth Young Arena” to take place during FallFest

Residents of the Town of Caledon are invited to the naming ceremony in honour of Garth Young, who recently retired after 38 years of dedicated service with the Town of Caledon.

The naming ceremony for the “Garth Young Arena” will take place at the Mayfield Recreation Complex 12087 Bramalea Road, Caledon on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome and RSVPs are not required. This event will be a part of the many FallFest Activities taking place at the complex that day.

Garth Young was a dedicated and committed employee in the Parks and Recreation Department. He started shortly after the Town incorporated, and retired in early 2013. Garth was instrumental in the operation of all Recreation facilities in the Town of Caledon including facility bookings, maintenance, customer service, programs and community relations.

Beyond his regular duties, Garth’s service to his community went well above his job description and what was expected. This often meant giving up holidays and time with family to ensure the residents of Caledon received the highest quality of service at all times. Throughout his years with the Town of Caledon, Garth was a mentor to hundreds of staff, volunteers and sports groups. The legacy that Garth leaves with the Town is a tribute to the time, dedication and passion Garth has demonstrated in the community.

“Garth’s dedication across the Town is to be commended and I am very pleased to be able to present him with this honour on behalf of Members of Council,” said Mayor Marolyn Morrison. “We choose the Mayfield Recreation Complex because Garth put his blood, sweat and tears into every facet of the facility and made it an important place in the Caledon community. We’re pleased that the arena will have Garth’s name on it in recognition of his dedication and commitment, and serve as inspiration for all those who come to the arena.”
