On Saturday, May 28, show your love for Island Lake Conservation Area at the annual Spring Trail Donation Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is hosted by the Friends of Island Lake (FOIL) in partnership with Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF).
“Trail Donation Day is a chance for the community to come out and support the park,” said Terri LeRoux, Director, PARCS for Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and Executive Director, CVCF. “This year, funds raised will support our Story Book Walk project which will be a fun, interactive and educational activity that places the pages from a children’s book along the trail.”
Since 2005, FOIL has raised over $2.6 million in donations, constructed more than 10 kilometres of fully accessible trail and volunteered over 10,000 hours annually toward park projects. The trails help connect the municipalities of Orangeville and Mono. Funds raised have also supported new infrastructure around Island Lake Conservation Area.
The number of people visiting Island Lake Conservation Area has increased significantly since July 2015 when the final bridges were installed on the Vicki Barron Lakeside Trail, creating a full trail loop around Island Lake. Last year approximately 347,000 people visited the park.
Volunteers will collect donations for the Island Lake Story Book Walk Project at the Hockley Road and 4th Avenue entrances. Donations can also be made at the gatehouse, online on the CVC Foundation website or by contacting Sharlene Hardwar at sharlene.hardwar@cvc.ca or 647-285-8738.
