New Direction for Parks and Recreation Department
Over the next few years, the Town of Caledon will be adding a new multi-purpose Recreation Facility in the Mayfield West area, an Equestrian Park that will service the 2015 Pan Am Games, the Johnston Sports Park that will become a tournament site for many user groups, and a number of additional parks to serve the community. This is a very exciting time for the residents of Caledon and as a result of this growth, the Parks & Recreation Department recently completed a restructuring exercise in order to deliver the services residents deserve in a more efficient and effective way.
The goal of the restructuring was to focus on being more community-centric. As a result, the recreation facilities were split into three ‘families’ and Supervisors were put in place to service the community residing in those areas. These changes will allow for more timely resolutions to issues and the forming of relationships with users and various stakeholder groups. Over time, adjustments can be easily made to improve the delivery of services town-wide. Many successes have been seen already and staff has been out and about meeting with Service Clubs, Neighbourhood Associations and Sports Groups to better understand their wants and needs.
The Department has also expanded the number of special events that take place which are family-focused and ‘free’. Each season the staff will be hosting these types of activities to encourage residents to be active, have fun and explore all that Caledon has to offer. From swimming and skating to arts and crafts, these themed events will have something for everybody!
The Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness continues to have something for everyone due to the number of amenities available, however, programming has been expanded town-wide and a number of new opportunities are now available at the Mayfield Recreation Complex and Caledon East Community Complex.
