How does a poet sneeze?

Haiku! (Gesundheit)

April is National Poetry Month, established in Canada in 1998 by the Leagues of Canadian Poets to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada’s culture.

Caledon Public Library (CPL) has many ways to enjoy poetry – books, eBooks, Audiobooks, streaming recording of various poets, etc. which you can enjoy by visiting our catalogue. If poetry is your passion, consider joining in the following in-person CPL programs this month:

Open Mic Poetry Night
Are you a poet AND know it? Share your original work or a favourite poem in celebration of poetry month at CPL’s Open Mic Poetry Night on Wednesday, April 17, 7pm at the Alton branch. Or, if you just enjoy listening to the spoken word, join our audience and cheer on your neighbours featuring CPL’s Writers’ Ink members and local poets. You will also be able to sample the Library’s resources at a special book tasting of ‘creative’ materials that include books, magazines, free writing courses, and information on Writers’ Ink & Artful Caledon. Register by visiting the Library’s Event Calendar today.

Record Your Work
Have you ever considered recording your work? Whether it’s spoken word or made into song, you can learn how to use CPL’s recording studio under the instruction of Caledon’s own audio engineer/studio producer/musician, Mauro Giammarco a.k.a.Mars, to help you get the sound you’re looking for. You can learn more about Mars by visiting his Artful Caledon profile at

Each 60-minute appointment includes 10 minutes of setup time for mics (and instruments if needed) and 50 minutes of studio time. Your session will use the Cubase digital audio workstation and the recording studio’s equipment. You will leave with an understanding of how to set up your recording to sound its best. Appointments are available on Saturday, April 13 at Margaret Dunn Valleywood Branch. Visit the Library’s calendar to book your spot today.

CPL has everything you require to enjoy Poetry Month.

Remember, when life gives you metaphors, turn them into poetry.
