Dear dirt – A Poem by Carol Good

Hands and dirt
Written by Carol Good

Dear dirt

How do you do it?

Support our every step

Hold up our homes

Shelter subterrain hordes

I remember, as a kid, at bathtime

scrubbing my grubby knees

you were ground in

after all day outdoors

Now discarded gloves litter the gardens

And you are under my nails

I dig in – directly

to hug you
