EXCHANGE FOOD SUPPORT UPDATE

The COVID-19 pandemic is evolving quickly and there’s anxiety felt by all as we make preparations for what’s to come. Throughout this time, CCS’ goal has been to maintain uninterrupted food support for Caledon residents who need us while keeping our staff, volunteers and the Exchange facility safe.

Approximately 1/3 of food banks across Toronto have already shut their doors. Caledon Community Services is resisting a shut down and doing all we can to maintain our service safely. We cannot let people go hungry in our community and we have hundreds of families who rely on the Exchange.

We have implemented a pandemic plan to our food distribution. This allows us to still supply people with food. Please see below for important updates to the Exchange’s distribution of food and collection of food donations.

Changes to the Exchange Food Support Program

 Food Support has just been deemed an essential service. Effective immediately, our in-person pantry shopping model will change to pre-packaged food hamper distribution to eliminate all personal interactions. The method of food hamper distribution will be to place the hamper outside the building at scheduled pick-up times.

 We will provide monthly food support which will further limit in-person interactions.

 There will be no public access to the Exchange building. We absolutely must keep this facility clean and safe in order to continue to distribute food.

How Can our Community Help CCS Support Food Distribution?

 Our community is generous, and we need that generosity to continue. We have been fielding many questions about how people can best support the Exchange’s COVID-19 food support efforts.

 Our current inventory is approximately two weeks worth of food to support the hundreds of Caledon individuals and families using this program. We are experiencing a substantial increase in new clients seeking food support and we anticipate this trend will continue.

 With food inventory in need of replenishing but our capacity to sort food limited (we are not allowing volunteers to enter the Exchange), your cash donations will allow CCS to purchase the items that meet our clients’ needs.

 To make a financial donation, please visit ccs4u.org/donate

At this time we are still accepting food donations at the Exchange but that could change any day. There is a large red bin outside the Exchange at the rear of the facility. At the time of this release donations are accepted Monday to Friday, 10a – 3p.

On behalf of our entire organization, please know that we are immensely grateful for your kindness and generosity as we ensure that the neediest in our community are cared for.

Caledon STRONG!
