Have you recently visited the local community hub in Palgrave?  The Palgrave United Community Kitchen, affectionately known as “PUCK” offers seniors several great opportunities to enjoy free events, either[ on site at 34 Pine Avenue or close by at locations like the beautiful Palgrave Forest or the scenic Palgrave Pond.

Here are some examples of current programming at PUCK:

The Buckstown Café

At Buckstown CafeThe Buckstown Café is a free drop-in event every Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm. Enjoy conversation, cards or table games, and community connection. PUCK provides free coffee, tea, cold drinks, and light snacks. No registration required. The café is a fully accessible, secular space located within the Palgrave United Church.

Seniors Month Celebration – a special event on Tuesday, June 23

Palgrave pondTo celebrate Seniors Month in June, the café will be hosting a special event on Tuesday, June 23. In addition to snacks featuring local fare, certified forest meditation leader Janette Cridmore will speak about the health benefits of forest bathing and lead a short walk to the Palgrave Pond to provide an orientation to this practice for those who are interested in exploring this popular activity further.

Nordic Walking

A congenial group meets for Nordic walking every Monday at 10 am at the Hwy 50 entrance to the Palgrave Forest (west side, just north of Zimmerman Drive) for an hour-long trek through the forest. Poles can be provided if you would like to join without committing to equipment.

Community Cooking Club

Ladies at PUCK Cooking ClubThe Community Cooking Club is a diverse group who gather monthly to cook a healthy plant-based meal, normally on the last Thursday of each month. Most of the production is packaged in serving portions and delivered to the Exchange Food Bank to be frozen and distributed to clients, however participants also enjoy tasting their creation at a group lunch.
