COBS Bread Bolton Serving Up Fresh-Baked Goodness

The aroma of freshly baked bread filling my grandmother’s kitchen when I arrived home from school is, at least in part, responsible for my love for those fresh-from-the-oven crusty loaves of goodness.

Bolton folks hit the fresh bread lottery last December when Mary Deltin, a Caledon resident herself, opened the doors to COBS Bread.

Loaves of marble rye and white BreadMary, who spent 20 years in the education field, says she was ready for a change. “It was time to be in business for myself” she explains. “I was ready to be my own boss.”

After visiting a COBS Bread location in Georgetown she thought, “This is something I would love to do!” So, she did the interview, successfully navigated the 16 weeks of training, and was accepted as a franchisee.

Mary’s bakery is the only one in Caledon to date and she employs 18 people. The bakers start at 3:00AM and the store is open 7:00AM until 7:00PM, every day except Christmas and New Year’s.

Loaves of sunflower flax sourdough BreadWhile she like the fast-paced of being in the back helping with the baking, Mary also enjoys interacting with the customers. “I love chatting with the regulars and learning about what their favourite COBS products are!” she smiles.

And it is not all about the bread. The bakery also features scones, bagels, cinnamon buns, danishes, rolls, and more. Everything is made from Canadian-sourced ingredients, baked fresh daily and with no preservatives – not that it would be around long enough to need them!

Need a quick bite for lunch? How about a mini pizza or a cheese and ham twist?

Shelves of sconesMary admits her personal favourite is the triple-chocolate scone. “Just add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.” she sighs.

Top sellers? “Bolton loves its sourdough bread”, Mary says emphatically.  “Also, the scones are a big hit, as are the cinnamon buns.”

At the end of the day Mary says all leftovers are donated. “We have products picked up by a number of local charities, seniors’ homes, schools, and retirement homes.”

Mary warmly invites you to try out her bakery. COBS Bread is located in the Bolton Country Plaza at 301 Queen Street South. I bet you can almost smell the bread already!
