Bolton Regional Councillor Good to Know

Chairing New Aging Population Committee

Today I was honoured to be elected as Chair of the Aging Population Steering Committee at the inaugural meeting of this newly-formed Committee.

The Aging Population Steering Committee (APSC) was established on May 23, 2013 under Peel Regional Council Resolution 2013-464. The mandate is to assess and determine the appropriate role(s) for the Region of Peel to support the growing aging population in Peel.

The role(s) for the Region of Peel will need to be determined in relation to the roles of our sector partners, including other levels of government, the non-profit sector and the private sector, to avoid duplication, facilitate partnership and identify strategies to fill any gaps in the system.

Recommendations made by the Steering Committee to Regional Council for decision-making could fall under several areas. For example: type and service levels for programs and services delivered by the Region of Peel, community capacity building and support, and advocacy.

The Committee expects to hold 8 core meetings over the next several months and anticipates summarizing its recommendations for presentation to Regional Council in the first half of 2014.
