Tap into the sweet taste of spring! Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is preparing to host it’s popular Maple Syrup in the Park events. Visitors will have a chance to explore nature, learn about maple syrup production, and taste some delicious samples of the iconic Canadian treat.
The events will take place from March 11 to April 2 at Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville and Terra Cotta Conservation Area in Halton Hills.
CVC is offering three separate events for visitors to enjoy a sweetwater experience: Maple Syrup in the Park; Maple Syrup by Lamplight; and Sap to Syrup: A Maple Syrup Making Experience.
Maple Syrup in the Park is a family-friendly event where visitors can tour maple syrup demonstrations, take a walk through Tales on the Trail with family, try maple taffy, learn about Indigenous culture and heritage, and enjoy pancakes with real maple syrup.
At Maple Syrup by Lamplight, visitors will enjoy an exclusive after-hours maple syrup experience. Guests at Terra Cotta Conservation Area will enjoy an interpretive wagon ride to an illuminated sugarbush, while those visiting Island Lake Conservation Area will experience a guided tour by lamplight through the story of the maple sugarbush. Participants will learn about maple syrup production techniques used throughout history, sample warm maple syrup, taste maple taffy, enjoy a signature mocktail or cocktail and learn how to tap a tree. This event is for visitors 19 years of age or older.
Sap to Syrup: A Maple Syrup Making Experience is new this year at Terra Cotta Conservation Area. This intimate, hands-on experience takes place in the Sugar Shack and visitors will learn how to tap a tree, collect sap and use an evaporator to produce and bottle maple syrup. This experience is for visitors 18 years of age or older.
