Caledon Meals on Wheels (CMOW) is launching Connecting Seniors to Community Wellness, a new initiative designed to help older adults stay active, independent, and engaged. Running from September 2025 to March 2026, the program is funded by the Ontario Seniors Community Grant.
Social isolation is more than just loneliness – it can have real health consequences. Research shows that lacking social connection is as harmful to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and is linked to increased risks of dementia, heart disease, and stroke (Na, Jeste, & Pietrzak, 2023).
“Older adults in our community deserve more than just services—they deserve connection, purpose, and the chance to thrive,” said Kim Rodrigues, Executive Director at CMOW. “This program is about linking seniors to meaningful activities that support both their physical and mental health.”
Utilizing a model called “social prescribing,” the program will connect participants with local opportunities ranging from fitness and social gatherings to workshops and technology support. The goal is to reduce isolation, improve health outcomes, and strengthen community belonging.
