Caledon Arts Facility Proposed

Written by Patti Foley

Included in the Town of Caledon Council Agenda for the October 6th 2015 meeting was a piece of correspondence from Tony Rosa, President of Stage Academy Theatre Association. Mr Rosa, a teacher at St Michael Catholic Seconadary School, reports that he has been working for the past 18 months on a proposal to make a Performing Arts Centre a reality in Caledon. His proposal focuses on development of a partnership that includes several local businesses, community organizations and the Town of Caledon’s Parks and Recreation Department. Just Sayin’ Caledon will follow this story and bring you updates as they become available. Mr Rosa’s letter to Town Council appears below…..

Dear Mayor Thompson,

On behalf of Stage Academy Theatre Association in Bolton, I am pleased to inform you that our community theatre group has set our season for the upcoming year. Our students will be presenting the musical Annie from April 15-17, 2016 at the Cyril Clark Theatre in Brampton. It is our hope that the current members of town council will be able to attend one of our four performances. I will forward additional details on show times to your office in the New Year.

I would also like to take this opportunity to update you on a project I have been working on for the past 18 months. In response to the need of a Performing Arts Facility in our community, I have put together a plan that can make this a reality in Caledon in the near future. All of our local community groups and organizations will benefit from having this type of venue accessible in our town. It will finally provide a location to gather and showcase the wide variety of talents we clearly have in Caledon.

I recently had the opportunity to discuss my plan with the Consulting group that the Town used to make recommendations in the Parks & Recreation Visioning Plan on future Arts, Culture and Recreation for the town of Caledon. My proposal focuses on development of a partnership that includes several local businesses, community organizations and the Recreation Department at the town of Caledon in order to make a Performing Arts Centre a reality. The consulting firm confirmed that the proposal was in line with their recommendations and I am pleased to report that we currently have several interested partners for this project already in place.

At this time, I am requesting the opportunity to share my proposal with members of Town Council and your Parks and Recreation Department. It is my hope that together we can bring a Performing Arts Centre to our community.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Antonio Rosa

President
Stage Academy Theatre Association

  • This great news!!! My daughter has been attending Stage Academy going on three years. An arts faculty would be a definite bonus to our town and community. Looking forward to hearing more about this as it develops.

  • From time to time in the past across Caledon large buildings of heritage interest like historic barns have come up for demolition. If a use could have been found, they might have been savable. One idea that came up was to convert one of these buildings into an arts centre. Our previous mayor was keen on the idea but no champions who could go after funding surfaced to my knowledge. Perhaps this time it will be different and Mr Rosa will get support and even help our reuse efforts.
