Husky World Tour stops at global headquarters – Showcases complete solutions for beverage and specialty closure manufacturing

Bolton, Ontario – From June 11 to 12, 2013, Husky Injection Molding Systems hosted its North American Caps and Closures Conference at its global headquarters in Bolton, Ontario, Canada. The two-day event was attended by more than 85 business leaders from around the world and showcased Husky’s range of solutions for beverage and specialty closure manufacturing. Attendees were given unprecedented access to Husky’s facilities, labs and technology development programs and learned first-hand how the company is committed to driving opportunities for growth by improving the performance and capability of plastic closure manufacturing through the introduction of new and innovative technologies.

The event included networking opportunities, product demonstrations, as well as presentations from Husky and industry experts. Keynote speaker Bill Hall, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing from Niagara Bottling, LLC, delivered a presentation on managing rapid growth in beverage manufacturing. Also presenting was William R. Carteaux, President and CEO of SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, who spoke about why it’s a good time to be in the plastics industry. Key presentations by Husky experts covered the topics of improving specialty closure quality with hot runner technology, specialty closure mold technologies for complex applications, beverage packaging industry trends and the role of equipment in the reduction of variability.

A highlight of the two-day event was an in-depth facility tour. Tours of Husky’s mold and machine manufacturing facilities demonstrated the operational and process measures taken at all worldwide locations to ensure products meet the most consistent and highest quality standards. Attendees also toured Husky’s testing and validation facilities, where they learned how all new technology developments undergo stringent accelerated testing and long-term equipment validation. Husky specialists also demonstrated the company’s refurbishment capabilities, enabling customers with an aging asset base to bring their operations up to the latest generation performance and production standards.

As the closure industry’s only provider of complete injection molding systems, Husky is able to provide machine, mold, hot runner, temperature controller, and process and productivity software. Husky is continuing to leverage its global engineering and manufacturing capabilities to provide complete system solutions for beverage and specialty closure manufacturing. Examples of this collaboration were on display over the course of Husky’s two-day conference.

A feature of the event was the North American debut of Husky’s revolutionary HyCAP™ High Performance Package (HPP) system for high output beverage closure manufacturing, originally introduced at Chinaplas 2012. The HyCAP™ HPP 300 system was producing a 1.2 gram 29/25 mm lightweight water closure running a 1.9 second cycle time on a 72-cavity mold, with complete downstream IMD vision inspection system. Husky also demonstrated a Hylectric® 300 specialty closure system producing a 3.5 gram sport cap running a 12.5 second cycle time on a 24-cavity mold. The system used in-mold closing technology with downstream part handling from MMC Packaging and resin supplied by Nova Chemicals.
