The Udder Tournament
Submitted to Just Sayin' Caledon

The Udder Tournament is an annual, charitable women’s hockey tournament being held at the Caledon East arenas on November 6, 7 and 8, 2026. This will be the 12th annual Udder Tournament.

The Tournament was originally created to recognize a Caledon Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) founding member’s remarkable contribution to the league and community. After a courageous battle we lost Donna DeBoer to brain cancer in 2011. The Tournament’s success has been three-fold, it: celebrates our friend, teammate, and life-long dairy farmer’s influence and qualities, brings the community together for some good old fashioned Canadian sport and camaraderie, and raises money for community needs.

Donna was a proud, hardworking local dairy farmer. Her passion for farming led to the cow theme for the Tournament.

The Udder TournamentThis year, once again, all proceeds raised will be donated to Bethell Hospice in Inglewood, Caledon. Proudly, the total donated in 2025 was over $57,300.

The total amount of money this Tournament has donated back into the Caledon community to date is over $384,500.

In addition, one local female athlete attending post-secondary education will receive a scholarship. With the upcoming award, this will bring the number of student/athlete scholarships donated to a total of 25 women.

The tournament hosts 30 ladies’ teams. The first game of the Tournament starts at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 6. The last game finishes at 1:00 pm. on Sunday, November 8.

There will be eight divisions. Teams are sorted by skill level, from beginner to higher level. But fun is the focus. Most teams are mixed ages with many mother/daughter combinations on the same team. Again, this year the Tournament filled up in one day. With a waiting list. Players range from 19-70 years of age.

The Udder Tournament - volunteers neededTeams applying to play in the Tournament are expected to exude positive values that Donna and the Tournament represent. Namely, good sportsmanship, kindness, respect for others, and cooperation, both on and off the ice.

The Tournament is facilitated by the Caledon Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) and is successful primarily due to the 75+ volunteers (with many students getting their volunteer hours), community involvement, and players’ participation.

A community effort of this magnitude requires lots of volunteer help. Kathy Stranks is the Tournament’s Volunteer Coordinator and can be reached at UdderTournamentSponsorship@gmail.com

The reason this Tournament has been able to donate so much back to the community is because of the donations of items that can be raffled off, or placed in a silent auction, or from cash donations. The organizing committee is asking everyone to consider donating what they can to help. Angela Webster is our contact for donations. She can be reached at UdderTournamentSponsorship@gmail.com
