In 2014, Caledon Public Library launched the Read Local Caledon initiative as a platform to celebrate Caledon’s talented home-grown authors, creating awareness in the community and enriching the collection. This month, CPL plans to expand on this initiative with the introduction of Artful Caledon to foster the development of the Caledon art community.
CPL’s vision for Artful Caledon is to offer innovative programming, creative spaces for display and to design a platform for local artists of all ages to promote their works both in person and virtually.
Local artists can participate in Artful Caledon through:
- Virtual Platform – The opportunity to promote yourself and your work on a new virtual platform. Provide a brief biography/photo (optional); photographs of your work (3-5) and if there are any links to your personal website, projects, exhibits that you would like to be promoted.
- Workshop Facilitators – CPL is looking for workshop facilitators beginning this fall to offer workshops and demonstrations in the community and are seeking artists to share their knowledge and skills.
- Art Exhibits – Caledon Public Library is pleased to showcase art all year round! Art exhibits are displayed free of charge at all branches. Photographers, painters, sculptors and graphic designers (to name only a few) of all ages are celebrated – from up and coming artists who are school age to high school, to do-it-yourselfers to professionals.
- Official Artful Caledon Launch – Join members of the community for the official launch of Artful Caledon as part of a day-long celebration kicking off the 20th annual Love Your Library month. The event will take place on Saturday, September 30th from 10am – 4pm at the Historic Alton Public School (19657 Main St, Caledon, ON L7K 0E1). Also celebrating Ontario Culture Days and the Headwaters Arts Festival, the event will include an art exhibit featuring artwork from our Artful Caledon artists.
