Is 2018 the year you plan to retire and you are just not the “retiring” type? Why not “redirect” instead?
Caledon Public Library will be hosting a special film viewing of Dr. Suzanne Cook’s acclaimed documentary “Redirection: Movers, Shakers and Shifters” which examines career shifts and occupational change after 50. Dr. Cook is a professor at York University, a gerontologist and a public speaker who has coined the term “redirection” to reflect the new emerging stage of one’s career that occurs after traditional retirement.
In her film, Dr. Cook examines later life work experiences and healthy aging. As life expectancy increases, many people are interested in an extension of working life. This film shares the stories of five people who have changed occupation at age 50 or older. The stories help the viewer to understand that later life career shifts are common. Furthermore, the film provides hope and inspiration to others regarding the transition into new occupations.
The screening will take place on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Albion Bolton Branch at 7 pm. Following the film, there will be a discussion about the motivations and obstacles surrounding later life work changes. Register here.
