Four Young People Arrested and Charged

OPP Cruiser 2
Written by Patti Foley

On Friday, February 2, 2018 at approximately 11:35 am, an officer from the Traffic Unit of the Caledon OPP was stationary on Bramalea Road north of Mayfield Road when a grey 2017 Ford Fusion caught his attention by plowing through the school zone at a very high rate of speed.

The officer proceeded to travel westbound onto Mayfield Road and briefly observed the vehicle travelling aggressively in and out of traffic before losing sight of the vehicle. While attempting to locate the vehicle, the officer discovered that the Ford had collided with a post at the intersection of Mayfield Road and Dixie Road.

Following, 4 males were observed fleeing from the vehicle, which turned out to be stolen, and into a farmer’s field north of the intersection. During this time, two local schools were briefly placed in “hold and secure” while police operations were conducted to apprehend the suspects.

As a result, 4 young persons (all 16 year-old males) from Brampton were each charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youths cannot be identified.
