Caledon OPP Routine Stop Results in Firearm Seizure

On Monday, February 5, 2018 at approximately 7:38 pm, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was on general patrol when he observed a red 2005 Nissan Altima travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Highway 10 north of King Street.

The officer initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle and discovered that the operator was currently a suspended driver. While conducting an investigation for the Highway Traffic Act violation, the officer began an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act which led to the arrest of both the driver and female passenger. Upon conducting a search incident to arrest of the parties, police located a firearm inside the vehicle along with drugs and several thousand dollars in cash.

As a result, the driver of the vehicle, Kyle Victor HUESTIS, 26, of Guelph has been charged with the following criminal offences: Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm, Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams, Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, and Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada. He was also charged with the provincial offence of Driving While Under Suspension.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on February 8, 2018 to answer to the charges.

Further, Karley B SAMAN, 21, of Guelph was charged with the following criminal offences: Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm, Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada, Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine.

The accused female is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on February 12, 2018 to answer to the charges.
